With increasing age disabilities of the sexual function may deteriorate in women and men. At Anti-Aging treatments these problems also have to be taken into account.
In women a lack of female hormones arises in the climacterics. Estrogen deficiency causes an involution (atrophy) of the female sexual organs; the effects of testosterone dominate, so a trend to virilization
results. The vaginal mucosa may be affected with atrophies and inflammations. This leads to pain primarily at the sexual intercourse.
Also psychic changes develop during the climacterics, so e.g. decreases in stress tolerance, affective lability like irritability, depresion or lethargy, loss of libido.
The estrogen deficiency also promotes atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, stroke and osteoporosis.
A hormone substitution also helps to prevent these aforementioned diseases.
Changes in hormone levels can also lead to climacterics troubles at men (climacterium virile). These changes may cause loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, furthermore different general symptoms corresponding to
climacteric symptoms in women.
There are several possible causes of
erectile dysfunction. Not always hormone deficiency is the reason. Several mental aspects have to be considered, e.g. stress, depressive or anxious dysphoria, overtaxing, vegetative exhaustion, problems in the partnership. Furthermore various diseases may also cause erectile dysfunction (for example diabetes mellitus, morbus Parkinson, multiple sclerosis).
Several medicines, alcohol, caffein, excessive consumption of calories and fat and illegal drugs can lead to erectile dysfunction.
Holistic Anti-Aging strategies also should include a treatment of sexual problems.
Essential components are psychological care, nature substances (arginine, zinc, yohimbine, ginkgo biloba, horney goat weed, avena sativa, astralagus, maca, muira puama, cayenne pepper, paprika, ginger, cinnamon,
cloves, jelly royale), chemically defined preparations (sildenafil / Viagra, prostaglandin E1 / Muse), hormonal treatments or skat therapy in individual cases.
Moreover a balanced nutrition with an adequate reduction of calories, regular physical activity, avoidance of stress and regular sleep are essential measures.
